Love

Picture

I may like to play in the dirt but I also love to be a girly girl!

All I want for Christmas is you!

Repurposed Chimenea

Picture
We've had this chimenea for about 15 years.  It had been stored for a long time because we have an outdoor fireplace and didn't use it anymore. But I saw it this spring and new I wanted it up on my deck.  But I'm far to scared to actually burn wood up on my deck so I am burning citronella candles in it.  It's cozy and there is no clean up needed!

Terrariums

Picture
This time last year we were recovering from record low temps and also record snowfalls.  This year we're being teased with warm temperatures every few days.  So it's not helping with my SPRING FEVER!!  I have the urge to plant.  So to satisfy that need I've been using my terrariums.  This is a baby venus fly-trap I've started.

Christmas Traditions

Picture

Some times it takes a while for me to get motivated to drag all of the Christmas decorations out of the attic but once I get started I just can't seem to stop!
When we moved into this house in 2004 I planted my evergreens and my nandina shrub specifically with Christmas in mind.  Keep your garden in mind when coming up with ideas for decorating!

This baby and 3 of it's siblings came to visit

Look what finally happened!!!

Booger finally bloomed!!!  After wintering over last year I couldn't get it to bloom.  I was about to give up on it!

No wonder my girl loves college.
She gets to dress up like Barbie!

Puppy Love

Oh boy... things have gotten weird around here!  I think it's official.  They love each other.

hydrangea

Picture

I've seen pink hydrangeas, also blue, lavender, and even green ones.  But I have it all in my yard.  Apparently the ph in the soil is different in various locations in my yard.  And as you see with this one- even in the same place!  Crazy!  I've never seen anything like this.

Did you know?

Picture
Did you know that when you want to put fresh cut hydrangeas in a vase or flower arrangement you need to use hot tap water??
If you use cold water they will shrivel up in no time.
I tried for years to put the cuttings in a vase to no avail then one day I was reading The Barefoot Contessa's cookbook and saw her advice for arranging flowers.
It works like a charm!!!!

P.S.  Checking in to update you.  After 3 weeks they finally started looking ratty & I threw them out.  That's a lot longer than I expected!!  :)

Hummingbird

Picture
I hung my humming bird feeders back out yesterday and a hummer came up while I was still standing there.  They're thirsty!
This picture was taken last year. I hope to get more!

Sunset

Picture

There is something special about an Oklahoma sunset.
The colors are so vivid ranging from pink and purple, orange, or even red.
Some places are known for their spectacular sunsets- like Key West for example, but I'm not sure they have anything on our sunsets!  In Austin we used to go have dinner at the Oasis.  It sits on a hill overlooking Lake Travis.  At sunset every day they have a countdown and when the sun disappears they ring a bell and the whole place cheers.  I think we should do that!!!

Terrariums

Picture

This was an winter and early spring project.
I'm wondering how long until I kill everything in these pretty glass containers.
:)
So far they're still kicking!

Coco bean
Coco is the sweetie of the bunch!  After Joe brought Mazie home he told me he felt bad because there was one puppy left and she was so cute and he hated leaving her because these people lived in such a nasty home.  Of course we ran right back the next day and got her! Coco just wants to be loved. She's sweet to everyone!  Her tongue never stops!  She is licking, licking, licking!!!  All the time!  Her favorite things are her "babies"  Her long loofah weinerdog toys she carries around in her mouth and she loves to make them squeak.

Mazie and Coco snuggle like this all the time!

Summertime is for playing!

Play as hard as you work!  Remember to dedicate a little bit of time to the things that help you relax and unwind!

Summer days that seem to last well into the evening are the best!

Sweet baby

Picture
Mazie Moo
Isn't this the sweetest little face?  I love this girl.  My husband walked into our house in 2004 on my birthday with this little baby in his arms.  She was stubborn from the very first day. She had nothing to do with me and wanted only the kids.  But it didn't take her long to figure out who momma is.  She's the queen bee around here.  She's not really nice to visiting pets but she loves her sister Coco and she loves her cat, Arthur.
Her favorite things are pupperonis, going for car rides, boat rides, and running away.

GEtting a taste for photography!

Arthur

Picture
Arthur is the lottery winner! He is a rescue kitty from our local Humane Society. He had lived in a cage for the first 3 months of his life until he came to live with us.  He had never run before and it took him a while to learn how to use his legs.  He loves to talk and he is the biggest snuggle bunny ever! He likes to be held up by your shoulder/face.  I think it's from the volunteers picking him up out of his cage and holding him like that when he was a baby.
