I've learned one lesson because of my 365 project. If you see something you like go ahead and capture it while you can. I've always loved old signs like this one. While I've been doing my project I've had a mental list of things I'd like to photograph. I made an hour's drive to take this photo of this sign. The motel behind it was condemned and there were police there training drug dogs when I pulled up. They had a barricade up but I asked them if I could please take a photo. I explained that I'd driven there just to get a photo of this sign. They looked at me like I'd lost my mind.
A couple of weeks ago I was back in Joplin and drove past this place and the motel is gone. It's been leveled and the land cleared- including my sign. (sigh)
I don't know what happened to it. I hope that someone had the good sense to salvage it. I'll probably never know.
I'm so glad that I was not deterred by the police who clearly didn't like the idea of having to wait a couple of minutes for me to take photographs.
I'm still wanting to do a road trip through Oklahoma to do a Route 66 photo shoot. I'd better not wait too long!
Life Is Good!
What a wet summer we've had! It's August 12th and we are NOT having a drought, or a burn ban, or heat advisories. It's been nice enough to sit outside and enjoy yourself without sweating to death. I am in no way complaining! I love it. So does my yard. My rain barrel is full and I don't even need to water anything.
The one down side to all of this water is this:
There are logs and trees and debris floating in the lake.
Let's see if we can get a better view here...
That's not a very bad down side though, is it?
Here's a photo of a swallowtail butterfly I photographed a couple of days ago. It's enjoying all the lush gardens too.
So... it's back to school time, and kids and friends are heading back. That leaves me with LOTS of down time. I've been shopping the deeply discounted racks of plants at our local stores for those "good deals" I just can't pass up. I've been menu planning for the upcoming football tailgates, and I've been transferring photo files. I'm more than half way through my 365 photography challenge. 60% to be exact! And of course I've been enjoying the pups who are growing so fast. I've got my baby boy back from Europe and life is pretty good. I'm hoping to come across some new foods to share with you all in some fall blogs. Let me know if you have any special requests friends!
I'm a wife and mom! That about sums me up! I am blessed to be married to my best friend for 28 years now. I have 2 great kids that are grown! My hobbies include: Cooking, photography, gardening, reading, painting, and pottery, and feathering my nest!
