It does get easier. I have been reading all of the back to school posts on Facebook and seeing pictures of the little ones. I have one friend who's already crying on her daughter's first day of kindergarten. Boy... she's got a long row to hoe! I can remember those feelings. It's just knowing that these moments are precious and life will pass by far too quickly.
I've made an observation... and it's just MY observation. I don't want to start a fight. But it seems to me that when kids are leaving for college it's always harder with the first one than it is with the last. Even though you think you'll absolutely fall apart when that last one comes along. The other thing I've noticed is.. it's harder for moms to let boys go. Is it because girls are such vixens and will take advantage of your ever-so- innocent boy? I can see my kids shaking their heads at me. It's just a theory..
But I do know that after you've had one kid leave for college you see that it's all going to be ok. And by the time it happens again you look forward to the excitement.
I've mentioned before that I worried about how lonely my husband and I would be when kids left. But we discovered last year that it's actually very nice and it gives you a chance to reconnect and remember why you loved this person in the first place. All the focus is now back on each other rather than kids. It's very sweet and reassuring. And romantic. <3
Don't lose hope if you're feeling blue about kids being gone.
Yesterday was my first official day of empty nest round #2. It was a peaceful day. I got laundry caught up, dinner cooked, the house cleaned, and enjoyed a summer storm. Bring on fall and milder temps! I also brainstormed about some fall(ish) meals to cook and freeze. Maybe some pasta sauces, chili, etc..
We went to eat at AYC and had their pasta bar. And it has inspired me to get some delicious meals together than you can pop out of the freezer and have an elegant and fast dinner. There is no need to eat bad food just because school is winding up and life will be getting busy again.
My favorite sauce was a "natural" sauce that was simply olive oil with sauteed garlic, some white wine with lots of veggies tossed with a little bit of pasta, and a lot of herbs. I'm inspired!!
Happy Friday folks! Enjoy this gorgeous weather!!
I'm a wife and mom! That about sums me up! I am blessed to be married to my best friend for 28 years now. I have 2 great kids that are grown! My hobbies include: Cooking, photography, gardening, reading, painting, and pottery, and feathering my nest!
