I have SUCH a green thumb! I even have things growing I didn't plant. ha ha. :/
No but seriously. I have a well known plant problem. I can not be trusted not to buy plants whenever I go into nurseries or any garden department. I really don't have any room. And my yard isn't one of those manicured professional looking landscaped type of yard. Because of my love of plants and planting I really have more of an ad hoc type of yard. It's been planted, torn up, replanted, etc. many times over.
My problem is... I love everything. I want one of every kind of plant, tree, flower. Deciduous, evergreen, perennial, annual, tropical, succulent, etc. Get the picture? And it doesn't end with outdoor plants.
I would really love to have a real garden. My ideal garden would look like the one in the movie "It's Complicated" or The White House garden. Nothing too big. I would also like a greenhouse. But I don't have room in my existing yard and there are also covenants in our neighborhood that prevent me from doing a greenhouse.
My husband has been a pretty good sport about all of this. He doesn't say much when I ask him to dig up an existing plant that I've decided isn't working out. He happily digs holes for me wherever I ask. The only time I hear anything from him is when his clutter radar goes off. In the spring when I had starter pots all over the deck he was starting to twitch.
Here's one flower bed at the front of the house that I would love to redo. These plants were planted when we first moved in. I was working full time and I feel like I hastily planted all of this because I was just wanting landscaping.
This bed is out of control.
Now... on to my current issue.
These Japanese Ligustrum were planted on the north side of the house when we moved in. I knew they grew to be really tall but I had every intention of keeping them under control. As you can see they are up to the roof of the house and that's with us trimming them once or twice a year! They grow crazy fast.
In addition to being tall they also grew out to the point that nobody could walk on the sidewalk- you had to walk in the grass.
<------- Hey look! It's my shadow!
This was taken May 16. I began to trim the shrubs.
Then I got frustrated at the losing battle.
Then I got even.
The next day the guy that mows my yard was at the house and said "What did you do? Have a hissy fit and cut them down?"
I knew I didn't want to plant anything hastily (like I've done many times before) and I knew I didn't want to plant right at the beginning of summer. I decided I would just let this be and plant in the fall. I was hoping I would have a plan by then.
I still don't have a plan! Eeek!!! I've been thinking about all the things I would love to plant.
I'm at a a loss. Do something pretty and organized? Use this space to propagate plants (which is my new obsession) or use this to make a garden??
Meanwhile... I have the weeds enjoy.
