Isn't insomnia just a pain in the rear? For some reason I am just WIDE awake and here is 3:35 a.m. and I've been awake since 2 a.m. I finally gave up tossing and turning (and scratching) and decided to get up and read.
I mentioned that this past weekend we did work around the house. We cleaned out the front flower bed which was wildly overgrown. It had too many plants in it, and they were growing over the top of each other. As I started trimming with the lopper I realized that something had to go. So four juniper shrubs are now history. I don't know how anything at all was still alive in that bed. It was so wet! I would've known it was being over-watered if I could actually see the ground! I'm not going to mention the unfortunate hydrangea incident. But let's just say two hydrangea bushes have now been pruned. Completely. And yes, they were in full bloom. It's hard to communicate when your drenched in sweat , itching and feeling like your going to pass out. What we have left now in that flower bed is about half of what was there before.
An hour or two later I noticed intense itching and went to scratch and felt the bumps under my waist band of my shorts and knew instantly I'd been bitten by chiggers.
DANGIT!!! I try not to hate anything but I really hate chiggers. The itch lasts for what seems like forever.
I always know to take precautions when I'm out in the woods but I didn't expect my yard to have chiggers. I really don't know how anything could survive my exterminator's treatments. (Oh yeah... it was a jungle in that bed.) I got to wondering tonight while I was sitting here itching. What IS a chigger? Let me just warn you... don't go and google it. Especially if your eating your Cheerios. I always wondered if chiggers are a "southern thang" because I never really hear of anyone up north talking about chiggers. And I was actually kind of surprised that there is a bug called a CHIGGER. I figured it might be a name we southern people came up with that actually is the something or other mite.
I'm really itching now.. by the way! You just can't read or talk about stuff like that without itching uncontrollably.
I'm going to try to rest for a little while now so I won't be a complete grump tomorrow. But I'm going to leave you with a sweet thought (so you won't think about chiggers).
