First of all let me tell you... this is my second blog today. Some of you have listened to me bellyache over my internet problems but I don't really know what happened today. I had typed an ENTIRE blog uploading pictures and everything and POOF! My connection was lost. And so was my blog.
I'm not entirely sure it was my internet. My little laptop gets the hiccoughs sometimes when I upload photographs. All of my photos are in RAW format and they're large files I guess??? And I desperately need one of my tech savvy friends to help me do some external storage. I've tried. I always get the "unable to save files" message or something like that. It's really frightening. As far as I know NONE of my files are backed up. Help me.
Ok, onto the real story. I couldn't take it another weekend. It had been 3 weeks since I'd seen my kids. I admit I'm a baby. Even though I talk to my daughter every day several times a day or at least text her, and also talk to my son at least once a week, I needed to hug them. I've endured both of them not feeling well and even listened to stories about doctors visits, etc.. I'm not sure I'll get used to them being sick when they're 3 1/2 hours away from me. Throughout the last two weeks I kept asking "want me to drive down there?" "I can bring you medicine.." and was shot down every time I asked. So Friday I was a little surprised when it was mutually decided we should come stay the weekend. I'm telling you it's amazing how fast Joe and I packed and got ready! We were gone baby gone! I love living on the lake but it's sooooooooooooooooooooooo quiet in the winter. I've tried staying home as long as I can because leaving just means spending money and we are poor now that college tuition has been paid.
We got up Saturday morning and after a quick breakfast we attacked the apartment to rid it of any lingering germs. I felt so.... so... USEFUL!!!! and motherly. I asked my son "Do you want me to clean the windows?" and he just looked at me. He said "Am I supposed to say yes?"
They had a dust storm earlier in the week and everything outside was covered in red dust.
(P.S. I didn't clean them but I am definitely doing that next time.)
We decided to go eat lunch and my son suggested going to Bricktown in downtown Oklahoma City. He invited his friend Holly, and Amy brought her hall mate and friend Becca. I packed my camera bag thinking I would love to get some pictures of the Riverwalk. I don't know if this is something they do every winter but it was drained! Luckily some little ducks came splashing up the puddle in the middle of the dried canal.
What is it about ducks that make you smile? They literally made splash noises as they walked through the water.
It was pitiful and cute at the same time. If you look the the 4 o'clock position behind the last duck you'll see an old shoe that was in the canal. So many questions I have.... My mind works like that. Did someone fall in? Did someone get their leg hung getting out of a boat tour and lose their shoe? Did someone get mad after bowling a terrible game at the nearby bowling alley and chuck their shoe into the water in a fit of rage? Did they walk back to their hotel four blocks away with only one shoe on? I need to know.
awwwww... so cute! We loved the duckies!
And of course while I had my camera out I had to snap a photo of these two.
This is what silliness looks like. They look like cute girls but really these two are like a comedy act. Or it might just be a parent thinking that. But really, they are funny. I love their stories about life at college. We are a lot to take when we're together and Becca just fits right in. I kept wondering if we were freaking out Evan's friend. I hope not, she's sure sweet, and thanks to my pirate daughter it was baptism by fire. (Sorry Holly!)
Sunday I got up and got out of there before the kids were up. I needed to run errands. In Grove we have Wal-Mart. In Norman they have everything.
I was like a kid in a candy shop! (see, leaving ends up costing us money)
Just 3 days earlier I was perfectly happy with little turquoise cubes. But when I saw this bench... oh my gahhhhh.. I had to have it. And the little round table, and the pillow...
... and the lamp...
...and the picture...
But look how cute it is!
I was sad to leave the college town, it's stores, and good Mexican food but my puppies are glad to be back in their little world. And I guess I am too.
Life is good!!!
