I've yet to figure out how to blog when my heart is really heavy. And my heart has been really heavy. This week I watched as one of my childhood girlfriends buried her husband. Over a week ago he was walking into the garage early in the morning and suffered a massive brain aneurysm. Three days later he passed. I was really lucky to have been able to spend time with them as a couple recently prior to the accident. As a matter of fact, they were at my house a little over a week before this happened. We had a lovely time- sitting visiting on the back deck overlooking the lake. We also went to Rogers, Arkansas to go eat dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and had a lot of fun. Lot's of laughs!
And of course, thanks to Facebook, we talked often. Usually, it was me giving them a hard time and teasing.
Somehow blogging about cooking, gardening, and other mundane things just seem disrespectful when someone is facing something so shocking and sad. But I'll be back soon, and I know that my friends wouldn't want me to change being me.
I would like to say that this has given me a lot of things to think about. Spirituality, kindness, and living life in a way that matters. I always tell my husband many times a day that I love him but I also want my friends to know how special they are. I am truly blessed to be a part of a tight knit group of friends that time and distance cannot change. I believe more than ever that forgiveness and compassion are key to living a good life. I am vowing to block out negative and hateful influences in my life. My friend Rick was an encourager and was a friend to just about everyone he met and I think we could all stand to be kind like him. :)
Keep his sweet wife Darla in your prayers as well as their two sons. They are a sweet family.
I'll be talking to you soon- meanwhile I've been gardening and reading. It
I did it! I got the stump out and a new tree planted! :) Yay!!!!
Meet "Plum" she's my new tree.
This weekend's weather was amazing! We got out in the yard and got all sorts of spring projects under way. But the biggie was getting the pool open for summer. We got it uncovered and cleaned. Just seeing the pool without a cover on it brightens my spirits and makes me feel like winter is officially over.
Even with storms heading this way it's still great to look out and see something other than a green pool cover.
Last year my Carolina Jasmine didn't bloom. It suffered through the blizzard and I had to cut it back nearly to the ground. Look at it this year! Isn't that pretty?
This last week I was busy propagating plants and planted some Forsythia that I dug up that was growing wild along the road. I'm feeling so thrifty! ;) I love free things. I also dug up some wild tiger lilies and planted some crepe myrtle that was given to me by a friend. I'm feeling like Laura Ingalls.
Is anyone else gardening? I'd love to hear what's going on in your garden.
Here's a quick self-assessment. Read this short list of character traits and think about which ones you believe in and exhibit. Which ones are a part of your moral compass.
Then think... when people take note of MY character do they notice these traits in me?
I don't live my life to impress other people, but it does matter to me that I live my life in such a way that when people think of me I'm remembered as a person who has good character.
I especially encourage you to share your beliefs about these character traits with your kids in your family! There will be no greater role model than you!
Have a great day...
Life is good!!
It is a blustery day here in NE Oklahoma! The wind is ferocious today. I just saw on the news that there are 50mph gusts. I believe it. I went to Lowe's earlier today and the staff was going crazy trying to keep all of their plants upright in the garden department. Even my pets don't want to go out.
It's been a busy week! I got to see my mother-in-law and met some of her sweet friends. I also got to see my kiddos. It was a wonderful weekend! I'm already looking forward to spring break.
I'm a wife and mom! That about sums me up! I am blessed to be married to my best friend for 28 years now. I have 2 great kids that are grown! My hobbies include: Cooking, photography, gardening, reading, painting, and pottery, and feathering my nest! I have a project going at all times!
