I went to go see my best friend's daughter play ball since she was coming up to our area of the state. I wouldn't have missed that opportunity for anything! But while I was parked there my car caught a foul ball and my back windshield got shattered, and completely fell out. Yikes! The sad thing is I really did put some thought into where I was parking. I just knew it would be ok where it was. (sigh) Oh well, it's fixed now! And the important thing is I got to see a close friend. I really loved watching her play too!
I was working on a blog for the last couple of days. I'd planned to make barbeque sandwiches a couple of different ways. But in the middle of dinner I got a call that my brother was in town. It was a very nice surprise and blogging got put on the back burner-so to speak. But I did cook the food and I do have pictures. I just have to find the time to sit and upload. Tomorrow, perhaps! It was nice to see him and to catch up!
My plans this week have all been turned upside down but you know what? It happens! I'll catch up eventually!
Life is good!!
Did you ever meet my chair?
I ended up with this chair because I was brainwashed into loving it.
In other words... The decorator came in and told me how fabulous it was and I looked deeply in her eyes and went "Ok" And it stayed. And my check was cashed at lightening speed.
A week later I woke up and went "what the hell!" But I was stuck with a "fabulous" chair.
I tried loving it. I tried finding it's positive qualities..
It will hold me and two dogs comfortably....
And it stayed in my living room for 5 years. I forgot to add that it matched. It was color coordinated with my other living room furniture. It was hard for it not to be, can you see? It's pretty busy. And it's also BAROQUE. Which is what I was after buying all of my furniture from the decorator haha.
Anyhoo... it was a mistake. We shouldn't have gotten it. I should've been tough and taken it back. And when we got a new sofa recently my husband and I moved this chair to our bedroom but it didn't fit in there either. It didn't match my room and it was just awkward. So, I'd decided to try and sell it on consignment. I went down to my local business that sells household items for me, The Red Door Galleria, and my friend wasn't there. So I wandered next door just to look around and I saw a chair! I sent a picture to my husband and said "this could work in our room. The price is $145." He called me. It seemed like a pretty good price, and we thought if we didn't use it in our room we could use it somewhere. The kid's apartment perhaps.
So, I got my little recliner for $145 and loaded it in the back of my soccer mom car and brought it home. It was a good buy I thought! It was clean, had nailhead trim, and believe it or not it's the very first recliner we've ever owned!! We moved it into our room to try it out in there. And then something happened.
I started liking my big chair again. I think my little used chair works with the old big chair.
I'm still fighting my old feelings of buyer's remorse and this new feeling is strange... but for whatever reason I'm holding off on selling it for now. It's still very busy but when you actually walk into our bedroom now it has a very cozy feeling. It's been fun to sit and read in our room.
So, this is where we stand for now....
This weekend we went to a beautiful wedding! One of my best friend's in high school oldest daughter got married Saturday. We made the trip back to Arkansas to celebrate with them. It was a gorgeous spring day and the setting was out-of-this world. They got married at Garven Gardens in Hot Springs and the dogwood trees and wild flowers were in full bloom.
Gage was suddenly aware he was the center of attention as he headed toward the alter and got shy. Thank goodness he had a ring-bearer pillow to hide behind!
It was a beautiful sweet ceremony! And it was the first time I've watched as one of my best friends had a child get married! I sat watching mom and dad get teary-eyed and it hit me that we are getting close to that phase in life with our kids too.
Easter Sunday we got up and drove home but before leaving Lake Ouachita we got to see a young man being baptised in the lake with his grandparents present. I can't recall a more beautiful Easter. Between the trees blooming, the fields of wild clover, cowslip, and other wild flowers... it was a beautiful drive home. It was hard to leave one of our favorite places and some of our favorite friends. But we left promising to visit each other soon! We had so much fun on our visit and shared lots of laughs and even some stories that might have been better left unsaid!
I have to admit, I'm one of those people that has a hard time branching out and trying new things when it comes to going to our favorite out of town restaurants. Take Norman for example. This weekend we did what we always do: Friday- Arrive late. Go to BJ's Brewhouse and eat dinner and have a microbrew. Saturday- Go eat at Ted's Cafe Escondido and feed our faces until we're miserable and need a nap. Take a nap. Saturday night- Usually go to The Mont. Sunday- go have brunch at Seven47. Either that or squeeze in ONE more meal at Ted's. If I were able to stay longer I'd also have to include a trip to Johnnie's Char-Broiler and have a theta burger, or go to Fuzzy's Taco Shop, or Victoria's Pasta Shop.
Do you see a trend here? I love to eat. It's why I'll never be skinny.
Because I live so far away from my favorite places I try to replicate the recipes. Here's a couple of Norman inspired recipes.
It goes without saying that when we're at Seven47 we're going to have the matchstick fries. Here's my shortcut take on those:
My next copycat recipe attempt will be eggs benedict inspired by Seven47. It was amazing! Sweet peppered bacon, shaved ham, poached eggs, and an out of this world hollandaise sauce. I'm determined to figure this out!
I'm a wife and mom! That about sums me up! I am blessed to be married to my best friend for 28 years now. I have 2 great kids that are grown! My hobbies include: Cooking, photography, gardening, reading, painting, and pottery, and feathering my nest! I have a project going at all times!
