It truly IS the little things that make me happy. I have tried for years to grow hollyhocks. Every spring I'm drawn in like a zombie to the racks of seed packets in the stores. I see all the gorgeous pictures of the fully grown flowers on the packets and I want that soooo badly. And most of my friends know that my junk drawer in my kitchen is filled with seed packets. I can't resist! So..every year without success I try to plant seeds but they usually end up either not sprouting at all, or dying from either lack of water, or over-watering. But look at my pretty flower and my spike is full of blooms!!!! Want a sneek peek inside of one?? I know you're dying to do that.
ahhhhhhh so pretty. I love this! And yay for me for being able to grow this for the first time ever!! For a nurturer like me this is just the ultimate!
:( Now if I could just get my sweet puppy well. I read where emoticons are are big blogging no-no. Well, when it comes to expressing how I feel about my puppy I'm just going to let the emoticon show my sadness and the blogging rule makers can't just bite me!
We are still unsure of what's going on with her. But it is not good. I'm having to carry her outside to go potty. She pretty much sleeps all the time. Her tick profile has all come back negative and today we are moving on to consult specialists because we've ruled out just about everything within the scope of practice of the vet here. sad sad sad. I'm ready to get this baby girl well. I have two quick food blogs ready to work on. They're done, tasted great, and pictures are uploaded but this puppy has slowed my progress. :(
Thank you everyone on facebook for lifting me up yesterday and the anniversary of my daddy's passing. I really was ok. I have such great memories of him and when I think of him I smile. I miss him but I really do feel his spiritual presence. Pretty much all the time! I may be nuts but it is comforting. On that happy/wacky note.... have a great day! I have lots to do!! T.
Today I'm cleaning house. I'm so thankful for the rain that we've had that I'm not even going to complain about the mud and dirt inside the house. Today I'm happily cleaning floors (do you really believe that?) It may not be 100% true but that's my mantra for today. Happy Happy Happy!!!!
Tis' the time of year we take all of our toys out of the water and do maintenance on them. Earlier in the week we took the seadoo's out of the water and trailered them. They need some SERIOUS cleaning, and also some service- new spark plugs, etc..
We (and by "we" I mean my husband) tries to do as much as he can to take care of our water craft. But some stuff is just not for the average boat owner. The big boat is due for service on the outdrives and that requires taking the boat out of the water. We do not own a trailer for this boat. The place that sold us the boat does that for us. They have very large trailers and semi trucks to haul boats much bigger than ours out of the lake. But "we" decided that while the boat was going to be out of the lake "we" needed to take this rare opportunity to wax it. And wouldn't you know it decides to rain during this short window of time the boat is out??? Of course it does! We were going to go early Saturday morning and knock this chore out but it ended up taking 2 days to get it done thanks to the rain and drizzle. Because the boat was on the south end of the lake we had to ride around with all of our supplies. (It was about an hour drive)
So we had a ladder, buffer, cord, and generator to run the buffer. towels, rags, etc.. Ice chest! Can't forget that.
We got about 1/2 of one side done when the heavy drizzle started back up and we had to stop and call it a day. About that time the owner and manager of the yacht club who owns this property drove up. I guess a neighbor or passerby saw some suspicious looking people on their lot. They stopped just to see who we were. I asked him if he thought we were some random thieves who break in and wax boats and they said that we were welcome to break in and wax boats any time we wanted.
So for all of you who want to live on the lake consider the amount of work that goes into it. It is a LOT of work. It's true we could have paid someone to wax our boat for us. The last time we did that we paid $600. And we had to have them come BACK three different times because they skipped parts of the boat and didn't do a good job.
But I did have a great day working with my husband, doing chores, and taking care of our boat. It's been a good boat and has really taken good care of us. It's been dependable during some scary situations- storms, tornado, huge waves, high traffic. A lot of friends can attest to that. Now that the wax job is done (and I can't lift my arms over my head) it feels nice to know we're taking care of things.
I've had another recipe to share with you all for about a week. I just don't like blogging when I'm not 100% happy because I don't feel like it comes out with the feelings of enthusiasm for cooking that I usually feel. My problem? My poor little dog is hurting. I know that seems silly to say that I don't feel like blogging because of that. But my little girl is 9 years old. Just 9 months ago she had surgery on her neck for a herniated disk at C2 C3. And she's had this mystery illness causing her to have difficulty walking.
We've been to the vet numerous times in the last week and I think they cringe when they hear my voice on the phone. But I gotta get this girl well!
Today it's raining. We've actually had over 2 inches of rain according to my rain gauge. And even though I said "Yuck day" for the title of this, I really do LOVE rainy days. I feel like staying in and being domestic. Today I'm boiling a chicken and plan to make some Blue Goose Sour Cream Enchiladas for dinner. It's the bomb. If you haven't tried my recipe you should!
I just read the recipe for the enchiladas- I'm not sure why I posted corn tortillas. But I usually use flour tortillas. I guess it really doesn't matter which ones you use. It's just your personal preference. It will be great either way!
I'm going to save my chicken bones and make broth soon. My husband laughs at me when I get into these canning and freezing moods. I think he thinks of it as stocking up for survival. He says "Baby, it feels good knowing you're stocking up for us." (teasing me of course) The truth is I just love making my own broth. It's so much more tasty than anything you can buy from the store. But I have to admit... I did always love reading stories about pioneers and how they survived. The way they grew their own food, preserved it. It was always fascinating to me ever since I read Little House On The Prairie. I guess it's the Okie in me that draws me towards that type of history.
Have a great Friday night!! <3
Is there anyone else besides me who loves a fresh loaf of bread? Not fresh as in "I made it" but fresh as in new from the store.
Still, it's soft and new! New bread plus new deli meat... fuhgetaboutit!
I took my little moo dog to the vet yesterday and she was running a fever. The vet didn't seem to think she was having arthritis symptoms or any bone or joint problems. He gave her a shot of antibiotics in her rump. Her blood work came back normal. At any rate... my little girl has perked right on up. He says it's possibly pancreatitis from feeding her table food. Of course I told him no when he asked if I give her table food because really I don't. But after I got home I started thinking about it and guess what?? I do. I feel bad for not only lying to him (It was unintentional) but also for doing it because I know better. Last week she and I shared a few pieces of Pirates Booty. Then I gave her one tiny bit of pulled pork. He said their digestive system can't handle fatty people food.
So I'm thankful she's recovering and I promise not to do it anymore no matter how much she begs!
Time to get busy folks! Have
It's the post holiday blahs... kids have all gone back to college, and the best friend went back home. Nothing left but the laundry! It was a great weekend though. As usual, I've laughed until I literally can't breathe. I don't know what it is about having the girls around. College girls are a blast but it's my friend Lori that literally causes me to die laughing. And when you get the whole crew together silliness abounds!
As I said, today is laundry day. After doing this all day long I'm just now about to walk into the laundry room without stepping on a pile of clothes, towels, or sheets. But there is more to do. (Always) Needless to say I'm not feeling like being creative in the kitchen. I had planned to grill tonight but it's 105 again today and the hubby is doing his draft with the guys from work. So it's a fast food, carry-out kind of night. But I had planned way earlier in the day when I was feeling more ambitious to make the tequila lime chicken I saw PW make.
I don't have all the ingredients but what I DO have is a pitcher of leftover margaritas in the freezer. (Can you believe there is leftover margs?) So I added some lime juice to it, some garlic, and some fresh cilantro. I gave it a whirl in the blender and added a dash or two of olive oil. The chicken is marinating and will hopefully be cooked tomorrow and will turn out just fine. (I'll let you know)
My poor little Boo dog had to go to the vet twice today. I thought she was hurting from arthritis or back pain but it turns out she was running a fairly high fever. If they could only talk!!! :( After 2 shots in the hiney she's already perked up. I'm so glad.
In other lake news... we rescued some people on the lake Sunday who were having an engine fire on their boat. We got their little kiddos onto our boat and got them to the shoreline and got the boat to the ramp. So scary!!! I can't believe how many people went by them and didn't stop. It's disappointing.
I'm a wife and mom! That about sums me up! I am blessed to be married to my best friend for 28 years now. I have 2 great kids that are grown! My hobbies include: Cooking, photography, gardening, reading, painting, and pottery, and feathering my nest! I have a project going at all times!
