I came across this photo this morning while going through my files looking for some lasagna pictures. This picture makes me kind of sad. See the pretty little tree in front of the hydrangea??? I killed it. Yep. It's a goner. I didn't pay attention to the settings on my sprinkler this summer and I drowned my poor little tree. There was a month that we were gone quite a bit and this tree went for about a month of having standing water around it.
This is what's left of the tree today. A stump that is proving to be difficult to get out of the ground. My husband keeps telling me it just needs to stay there but you know me.. I'm going to put another tree in the space. He isn't sure it can be done and I'm determined to get it done. What kind? I don't know. It has to be a small tree or an ornamental. Something that can take the Oklahoma winds, snow, ice, and extreme heat. I'm open for suggestions. If I can find a Japanese maple that is sun tolerant I'll probably do that. But I am always going to miss my little heart shaped leaves and cheerful blossoms of the Forest Pansy Redbud. I wish I'd been a better caretaker.
I am so ready for spring!! These days we have warm weather one day that tease us into thinking summer is right around the corner. And then the wind will pick up and it's cold once again. Yesterday my neighbors across the cove were out grilling and had a little fire in their fire pit. We had fisherman come into our cove to fish and it was so nice!! Today... wind and cold.
Lately I've been guilty of cooking and not thinking to blog. So today I'm going back into the kitchen to remake the stew we had a week or two ago so I can share. It might be a little late in the season for stew.. but in a day or two the weather might be cold enough for it! You just never know! The last time I made this we were expecting snow and I thought a pot of stew might last for a couple of days at least but this was so scrumptious that we ate all of it in one day. :)
My bulbs I planted a few weeks ago are coming up! I have one tulip! :D It gives me hope!! Spring will be here soon!!
